AWARDS

Today I want to do what I planned for a long time. Some of us like the awards, but some of us do not like the chain-letter-system coming with the awards. I am not a fan of following the rules too. But Rebecca gave me an award a few weeks ago I apprechiate very much: My award

I have done all my housework yesterday together with my daughter (and afterwards we had italian pasta and pizza), so today there is time for paying forward this award. Because I am no more a big reader, but love films, I want to tell you something of my favourite films with this award-thing.

First person is the incredible Pubdoll. I was looking for a film with fantasy as in her stories about the dolls, with witty speech, with love for the work and unexpected outcome. So it wasnt hard to find such a film, and I love it very much:
Ein Fisch namens Wanda

(sorry that I do not post any pictures, I know, such a post is not so interesting, but I'm not sure what is allowed and what not).

Second is Callsmall. I love not only her blog with pictures of furniture I like - we have the same taste indeed -, I especially love the stories of her childhood in NY, of her family affairs, and... this is the name of the tv-series I chosed for her:
Family Affair

(and sorry that I do not link the winners of the awards, I think you all have a bookmark to their blogs)

Doreen is one of my first followers and she is such a kind and friendly person. I enjoy watching her post that shows her skills in making furniture with her own hands, but I like to see the wonderful landscape she lives in. That reminds me of a film I also like so much, not only because of the wonderful actors, but there is such a nice landscape and lake:
On Golden Pond

The wonderful Rebecca. There was no second of hesitating which film is for her. I absolutely adore this film, but I'm afraid it is only available in german language. This film is about a journey of a former ddr couple and her daughter to Rom. The husband has a book of Goethe and reads what Goethe wrote on his own journey to Rom in some parts of the film/journey. It is a very funny film, but never silly because of the wonderful actors and the Goethe-parts. I would love you could see this film, Rebecca. I know you would love like me:
Go Trabi Go

Next is Petitenouveau! Oh, I miss her posts and hope she is well. A lot of work to do, Christy? I cannot say exactly, what is the reason for selecting this film, but it was the first that came to my mind and there was no doubt. I love your outlook and so I love this film, enjoy!
Sweet home alabama

I often told Annina, that her pictures reminds me of a Hitchcock-movie. There is some tension it in, I cannot explain, but it is a very strong feeling and strikes me all the time I look at her artwork-fotos. So my favourite Hitchcock-film is:

Pay it forward

One of my favourite films since the 70s, when I watched it with my husband, is the film I want to give to Modern MC. It is /she is classic - no more is to say.
Star Wars

Allthough she isn't at this stage in the moment, I want to include Altera. I love her style and I miss her. Hope she will read this at least. I'm a fan of the sixties style and there is no film I have seen so often as this one (because it is repeatet shown in tv again and again):
Pillow Talk

The last award goes to a lady I got to know not long ago. I like her style and I like her ideology, she shows a bit of it in her wonderful blog. So a film for the heart and for the people who believes, that there is just more (so do I). Please visit Lizes blog! Her film is:
As it is in heaven

I hope you all had fun reading this award-list and I hope you are not sad if you are not mentioned. I read many more blogs and there is something I apprechiate in every blog. I want to thank you all for the connection and the love i feel behind fotos and words.

  3. You know I'm not much into the chainletter part of these awards either, but this was a great idea Oese! (But I probably won't follow any blog rules this time neither :-)) And so funny you chose Ein Fisch namens Wanda for me, because I love the movie and have seen it many times, not only in English, but in German as well! I saw it once when I was in Germany twentyone years ago and it was a great experience! Not just because of the German dubbing, but before the film started there was another little film with just a conductor on the screen who taught everyone in the cinema to sing "Mein Hahn ist tot" in canon! And all the people did sing as well! I will never forget it!

  4. Oh Pubdoll, this is a nice story "Mein Hahn ist tot!" I love canons. I love singing. I'm very happy that I chose the right for you. By the way: have you read the book Rebecca chose for you? I hadn't the currage to purchase mine because I'm afraid I cannot understand a whole book in english. I tried it several times, but only was succesfull with Nicolas Sparks - and that is not my cup of tea, you'll understand....

  5. Hi Oese, I won't have any time to read books until the Christmas Holiday, but I have bought the book and intend to read it then. And I love singing as well :-) I haven't read Nicolas Sparks, but I understand :-)

  6. You're very sweet, Oese, and I appreciate the recognition! Like Rebecca's awards, this is a very thoughtful way to think about your fellow bloggers. Family is a big part of my life, so I would say it's an appropriate choice for me!

  7. Hi Callsmall, good morning to you!
I'm glad you think it was a good choice for you, perhaps you can have a look at a few scenes on youtube - it is very lovely in this New York appartement and you once told me, that you don't know this series.

  8. Thank you so much, Oese! What a great idea to choose films. I like the way this award is evolving, from Sans to me to you - now you have been creative with it and it reflects what you enjoy as well as what we enjoy!
I will try to find a copy of Go Trabi Go - it sounds great! On the IMBD website, it says that not only is it in German, and no-one knows of an English version, but the family also speak the Saxon dialect! So I don't know how easy that would be for me to understand. But I have also seen that it is used in German courses in Australian schools, and that it was shown on Australian television on SBS. SBS add their own subtitles, so if someone has a copy of the film with those subtitles, that would be wonderful!

I have read Through the Dolls' House Door again. Some of the language is very simple - short sentences, and not difficult. But when the dolls are talking (!), there are word plays that might be a bit difficult. For example, one says 'It suits you down to the ground' and the other says 'But it is only a short dress'. So the first doll is using an expression meaning 'it suits you very well', and the other replies to its literal meaning (if it were a long dress, it would reach down to the ground, but it's short, so it doesn't reach the ground). The dolls do that quite a lot. And those expressions are a bit old-fashioned too (like 'Fiddlesticks!' for 'Nonsense!') So I think you would understand a lot of the story, but maybe find some of the dialogue frustrating.

  9. Dear Rebecca,
I hope you will find a version with subtitles and I am so glad you like my chose! I found a little bit of the film on youtube. It is a scene, where the Saxon family stopped by at the house of their Bavarian family (the two women are sisters).
I must say that this scene doesn't show the good german, but more of the bad side of them. Bavarians (Westgermany ever since) do not like the Saxons (Eastern Germany untill the beginning of the 90s), they even don't want to share their food.
But it is a scene, where the little book of Goethes journey appears.
So perhaps you can see if you understand both dialects?
    Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_gJg5wbx3Q
I will try to read the book, my daughter is a very good english-speaker and she could help me if necessary. This is an oldfashioned expression too, isn't it?

  10. What an interesting award you have chosen and what a wonderful job you have done with it. On Golden Pond is a wonderful choice for me in more ways that one. Both my husband and I can relate to this movie and we talk to each other that way too. (He is always trying to catch the fish "Walter" in our river as well) That is the kind of place we would love to live in and the kind of life we like to lead, so it is indeed a very good choice of movie.

  11. Thank you Doreen - this is a nice compliment for me. I'm glad to know you and I wish you a peaceful life with your husband and pets!
